LSC
Overview
The LSC is responsible for planning, funding and commissioning all Further Education (i.e. post-16 education that is not Higher Education). If the Apprenticeships, Children, Skills and Learning Bill passes, however, then the LSC will be replaced by two bodies in April 2010. The YPLA (the Young People's Learning Agency) will be responsible for pre-19 provision and the SFA (the Skills Funding Agency) for post-19 provision.
Role
The LSC:
- funds learning for students aged 16-19 in schools and colleges
- funds training providers (see Apprenticeships)
- works with employers to identify skill requirements.
