Overview

The Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills (Ofsted) is the official body for inspecting schools; it is responsible for inspecting and regulating care for children and young people, and inspecting education and training for learners of all ages.

 

Role

It is responsible for inspecting the standards of independent schools and state schools, local education authorities, child day care and child minding in England. It also monitors the work of the Independent Schools Inspectorate.
