Post-16 education
Further Education
GCSE examinations mark the end of compulsory education. If students wish to continue studying between the ages of 16 and 18, they will typically study in the Sixth Form of a school, a Sixth Form college or a Further Education college.
Go to Assessment for information on what is available for students aged 16 or older.
A note on Higher Education
Students normally enter university from the age of 18 onwards, where they usually study for a degree. A student's first ('undergraduate') degree is usually the Bachelor's Degree (typically three years); students who have completed a first degree are eligible to undertake a postgraduate degree. Many institutions now offer an undergraduate Master's Degree as a first degree, typically lasting four years.
