Online mentoring
Employers now have the opportunity to engage with education online. They can connect with schools and colleges via e-mentoring websites.
Benefits for employers
- Employers can work with schools and colleges irrespective of their own and the school's/college's geographical location.
- Employers can work with a number of education establishments at one time.
- They can work with schools/colleges that they think will benefit most from their help, wherever they happen to be located.
Benefits for students
- Some particular courses and qualifications benefit form online links. E.g. products designed as part of the design and technology syllabus can be made for real through online access to a local employer's CNC machine.
- Students are 'at home' on the internet and they find it a natural way to communicate and learn new skills.
- Online support is particularly useful for rural schools/colleges that don't necessarily have access to employers in the area.
Getting started
- Contact local schools and intermediaries.
- Visit the Take action section on this site, for more information on what to do next.
