Numeracy support organisations

The main programme that offers numeracy support is Number Partners. It is primarily for upper primary and lower secondary school students. Another programme called Every Child Counts is for five year olds and is currently being piloted in 21 local authorities.

 

Number Partners

What is it?

  • Programme enhancing the numeracy skills of 7-16 year olds.
  • Takes place predominantly in primary schools, but is active in secondary schools too.

Who is it for?

  • Students in need of further support with numeracy skills.

What would an employee have to do?

  • Visit a school and spend up to an hour a week playing specially developed number games with students.

Do employees need to have any special skills?

  • No. Employees just need to complete a training session.

Where to start?

  • Visit the Number Partners website to find out whether there is a scheme running nearby or to set up a new programme.
  • Contact the local Education Business Partnership Organisation through the IEBE website to find out about programmes that exist in the local area.

 

Every Child Counts

This maths programme for five year olds is currently being piloted in 21 local authorities. By 2010-2011 it is expected to cover 30,000 children in 1,900 schools in 105 local authorities.
